“The purpose of music, at its best, is to transport the listener on a special journey and to carry the listener through various feelings which will lead him/her to a more positive self awareness.”

A. C. Sharp is Adam C. Sharp, a composer, writer, performer and instructor. He’s an all around kind of guy.

Adam first listened to a variety of musical styles ranging from classical to punk and continued to listen for variety in music. He continued to listen to many styles as he grew older, but instead of finding many differences he found that all styles or types of music are all about the same thing: communicating an experience to an audience.

Adam has developed an understanding of music and is primarily interested in electronic and world music. He is also practiced in various world percussion instruments such as the djimbe, the udu and the gathering drum. As an electronic musician, Adam has experimented with styles such as: New Age, Space, Ambient, World Beat, Minimalism, Trance, Ethereal, Rock and Jazz. But, one of the most important elements about his compositions is to “set a positive tone even if it is in a sense of wonder or sorrow.”

Because Adam creates such a variety of music he has many influences. Since Adam creates with scenic ideas in mind his first influences were soundtrack composers such as James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, and Alan Silvestri to name a few. But, he also has been influenced greatly by New Age and Ambient artists such as Tangerine Dream, Patrick O'Hearn, Richard Bone, Nik Tyndall, and Exchange. Also, his World Beat influences include Dead Can Dance, Loreena McKennitt, and Open Canvas, also to name a few. And, of course, there are many electronic musicians who have helped to influence his work which include too many to discuss.

Also, as a writer, Adam has created a variety of short stories, plays and poems. One play, “Creativity and the Self,” which he both wrote and acted in, premiered at California State University, Long Beach. He has also been an editor for various literary magazines. As a performer, Adam has also acted in various theatrical productions. Adam earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He currently teaches, as an English Instructor, at various colleges in Southern California..
