Harpist Catrin Finch, from Wales, is renowned for her phenomenal musicianship and for taking the harp to new heights. Catrin began learning the harp at the age of five and she has been delighting audiences worldwide since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music and Drama in 2002 during this time, Catrin was appointed as Royal Harpist to HRH the Prince of Wales and was signed to Sony/BMG. Major international prizes and awards include the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition in France, the Young Concert Artists New York an Echo Klassik award in Germany and a Classical Brit nomination. Catrin has performed extensively in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the USA, including recitals and concerto debuts in New York, Boston and Washington D.C. Notable events in 2004/05 included an appearance with the Boston Pops, performances with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields at the Barbican's Mostly Mozart Festival, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Welsh Proms, a recital for Radio France and concerto appearances with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the London Mozart Players and Sir James Galway, the Philharmonia, the Charlotte Symphony and the Lake Charles Symphony. Highlights from 2005/2006 included a recital at the Weill Recital Hall in New York, a concerto debut at the Lincoln Centre for the Mostly Mozart Festival, a performance at the MDR Musiksommer Festival in Leipzig, concertos with the Manchester Camerata, North Carolina Symphony, the London Mozart Players and the English Chamber Orchestra, performances at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, plus an appearance at the Edinburgh Festival. Catrin also made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in June 2006. Catrin has collaborated closely with Karl Jenkins on several projects including the premier of a new double harp concerto commissioned by HRH the Prince of Wales. Catrin is also developing new works for harp with John Rutter and Howard Goodall. Catrin has recorded for most of the major international recording companies, including Universal records, Deutsches Gramaphon, EMI and Sony Classical, as a soloist and as a featured artist on recordings with well known artists including Bryn Terfel, Sir James Galway, Julian Lloyd-Webber and Katherine Jenkins. Catrin’s versatility in different musical genres is demonstrated through her recordings which range from solo classical recitals and concertos to an eclectic cross-over mix including her own 14 piece band “CF47”. Catrin has received Honours from University of Wales Aberystwyth and Bangor, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music, where she is also visiting professor. Catrin continues to work within the community and she is committed to introducing, not only the harp, but also classical music to people worldwide. Future performances include returning to the Welsh Proms and the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina, a performance with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, a concert tour of Japan and Catrin will kick off a UK tour with her big band “CF47” at St David’s Hall Cardiff in April 2007. Catrin will also perform at the opening concert of the ‘Acapela’ centre, a state of the art performance and recording venue that she is setting up with her partner Hywel Wigley.
