Dan Reading is an exciting artist from Southern Maryland. Currently Dan heads up Dan Reading and the No Relation Band, an extremely exciting and original project featuring very talented musicians with an original sound blending blues, funk, pop/rock, jazz and hip hop. The No Relation band is held together by an incredible rhythm section featuring Dan’s lifelong friend Anton Flewelling on bass guitar and backing vocals.
No Relation is kind of the brain child of Anton and Dan and continues to morph into bigger and better things each day. The sound is rounded out with John Wilson ..boards and Robbie Mays on Saxophone. John, a graduate with a degree in music from UNF is a prodigy of sorts. His sense of musicianship and style must be experienced in person to truly do it justice.
John and his wife Katie own and operate their own performance teaching studio in Jacksonville, FL called Rhythm and Keys. Robbie Mays on Sax is quite a treat for the fans as well as the band. Robbie not only lays it down Phat night in and night out, but he keeps it entertaining with his outrageous outfits and stage presence. You never know what Mr. Mays is going to do next to get the crowd movin!
Dan Reading has spent nearly half his lifetime polishing his art and making honest music. You might say his style is a bit "outside the box." While living in Nashville Dan worked on his commercial songwriting skills and decided that blues based music was where his heart was.
Dan started out playing drums in middle school, eventually picking up the guitar as well. On all of Dan’s solo studio recordings he plays the drums, the guitar, and does all the vocal work. Dan writes the lyrics and 95% of the music, while blending his humor and personality into as much of his music as possible.
Dan’s music has been reviewed by indie websites/organizations, radio stations, blues societies, and fans alike. He has been featured in newspaper articles in MD and NC and presently has online distribution of his music via CD Baby. Dan has enjoyed CD sales on three different continents and continues to rely on word of mouth and self promotion to gain new fans one at a time.
Currently, Dan resides in Jacksonville FL. Dan Reading and The No Relation Band are currently recording a live CD for May 2008 release..
