Gail Fratar's roots are in a New England family of singers and players who first inspired in her a true love for music. At university, she was bowled over by the American old-time and bluegrass music that was thriving there. "They all played like mad fiends on a variety of stringed instruments, some of them jumping quickly around guitar, banjo, autoharp, Appalachian dulcimer, mandolin." She managed to play them all, and has been singing and playing ever since, particularly with her partner Peter Kessler, also a multi-instrumentalist with whom the first two recording projects were made..
