Marty Jones and the Pork Boilin’ Poor Boys
Since 1997, I’ve been stomping out barn rock and true-grit country for the good people in Colorado and beyond. My sound blends early country, hillbilly bop and backporch blues and rock into a beer-soaked hybrid. I hope you dig it.
I’ve released a couple of full-length CDs with my old mates, the Pork Boilin’ Poor Boys. Full Boar received extensive airplay on independent stations across the United States, and some rave reviews from fans and media types, too. (Really, it did.) The disc is available at this site and a few Denver and Boulder music stores.
Our debut, self-titled CD (released in December of 1999) was deemed one of the top-ten country recordings in the nation of that year by the Denver Post, and the best local CD of 2000 by 5280 Magazine. (No kidding.) It’s now out of print, but I aim to have fresh copies in a few weeks. You’ll be able to buy ‘em here.
Me and the PBPBs were also five-time nominees to the Westword Music Showcase here in Denver. (Read more about our pedigree on our Pork Press page.) Over the past few years we've headlined shows at the best festivals, small theaters and music dives in Colorado. We've also opened for some of our fave peers, from Dash Rip Rock and Southern Culture on the Skids to the Old 97s, Mojo Nixon and Big Sandy. After a two-year hiatus - thanks to some dag-blasted vocal cord trouble - I’m back in the ol’ musical saddle again. I’m playing solo and trio shows around Colorado, and getting ready to record my next CD this fall.
My new disc will feature some fresh beery anthems, new hillbilly stompers, and some stripped-down acoustic numbers. And a few protest numbers, thanks to the current idiots driving my beloved nation into the ground. In the meantime, I hope you’ll come see me play at a music joint near you. I’m also available for beer festivals, private parties, weddings, debutante balls and other events. (I can bring loads of great beer from my mates at Oskar Blues Brewery.)
