With two CD’s being snatched up like hotcakes (“Hathaway Smiles” and “Clearly”), Denver based singer/songwriter Marcy Baruch has become something of an icon to those who swear by her songs and her live shows. Full of stripped-down honesty, her well-crafted Smart Pop tunes are threaded with both country and folk influences. Of her cohesive versatility, Music Connection Magazine writes, “This Denver area performer’s second CD has a buoyancy upon which her strong melodious voice floats, reminding some of us of Dar Williams and Shawn Colvin. Whether it’s the rocked up title track, 'Clearly,' the country-inflected 'Never Know' or the six-minute opus 'Simple Is Enough,' Baruch conveys a palpable warmth and subtle shift in style with ease.”

As a writer, Baruch was a 2004 two-time winner of BEAMS songwriting contests, some of whose judges were none other than Tia Sillers, Gary Harrison, Jaime Kyle and PJ Bloom. In 2001, She landed a spot in FEMMUSIC.com’s Top 10 list of independent songwriters from across the nation and was a two-time nominee (2002, 2003) in Denver’s “Best Singer/Songwriter” category in Westword Newspaper. In 2005, she has shared the stage with such notable writers as Steve Dorff, Alan Rich, Mark Selby, Jimmy Muffin, Marty Axelrod, Rick Ferrell, Jennifer Hicks, Tom Gould and Ed Skibbe.

As a singer, while Baruch was classically trained in college, her vocal quality as a performing songwriter embodies a delivery that is earthy, vibrant and full of spiritual and emotional provocation. Writes Catalina Soltero of Westword Newspaper, “Sultry, powerful and resilient, her voice shifts seamlessly from soothing and simplistic to bawdy and brash.” Steve Avedis (engineer for Kenny Rogers and N’Sync) comments, “Marcy Baruch has a heart and an emotional quality that portray themselves in her delivery. She just kills on the 'For Purnell Goode' song. Her voice drew me in right up front with its silky-smooth quality. She is like no one else I have ever heard.”

As a harmony and session vocalist, Baruch has an ear for stylistic appropriateness and a working memory built for tight budgets. These strengths offer other writers someone who can demo their songs in a manner that “sounds like” anyone from Ricky Lee Jones to Martina McBride to Celine Dion. Always desiring to support her colleagues, Baruch’s intricate and seamless harmonies have graced the recordings and live shows of many, including Caroline Aiken, Jimmy Muffin, Celeste Krenz, Peter Himmelman, Dakota Blonde and Sloane Michael..
