Mojo Collins was born in Raleigh, N.C., in 1944 during the end of the Second World War. He was raised in a large family of seven. His father Wild Bill Collins was a professional musician and young Mojo learned valuable lessons at the feet of his mentor. To this day, he still credits his father and grandmother Lorain as being his main influences in both style and delivery.
His first guitar was a cigar box with rubber bands strung over it, sometime around 1949. After showing his father that he truly had an interest in music and was serious about it, he received his first real guitar in 1950. It was a Stella by Harmony which cost about $15.00, case included.
He has now been performing for over five decades and remembers his father saying, "You only get out of it what you put into it." This and the promise of a great future in music is what has motivated Mono through all of the good times and the bad.
