Bodhran

A bodhran is an Irish frame drum, usually much wider than it is deep. It is usually played seated, holding the drum resting vertically on the thigh. One hand can control tension (and pitch) of the head from inside, and the other is used to hit the drum with a turned wooden stick called a "tipper'. (...or a "goat whacker", as the drumhead is often made of goatskin.)
