Based on their definitions and the limited amount of this type of music on WWR, I believe Avant Garde should be merged into Experimental. Thoughts? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experimental_music Kelli (talk) 12:18, June 2, 2008 (AKDT)

I don't believe they're the same thing. Avant garde to me would seem - a little weird, doing things in unexpected ways..."experimental" makes me think of things I would not class as "music" and might be more ambient noise or collections of sounds that are interesting, but not really musical. Wish I could give an example for you, but I'm having a senior - um - month Cater (talk/contribs) 12:19, August 3, 2008 (AKDT)
I understand what you are saying, but I've seen things tagged experimental here that definitely sound like music. Kelli (talk/contribs) 12:22, August 3, 2008 (AKDT)
I've encountered this issue from time to time while tagging. I understand what both of you are saying and would like to suggest another voting category -- Merge into Avant garde. It seems to me (based upon the wiki definition of avant-garde as it applies to music) that all experimental music is avant garde, but not necessarily the other way around.
