Lyrics search removal
DogNut and got to talking about removing the "Lyrics search" thing from tunes that are Instrumentals and thought the bots could do that. But before we ask the bots to do so we are wondering how accurate the tags for instrumental are. What's your (anyone) feel for the accuracy of Tag|Instrumental? sparx (talk) 16:36, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
Thanks for putting this in the correct place, sparx. I guess the worst case is you have to do your own google search if you find a song marked instrumental and it needs lyrics. DogNut (talk) 16:51, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
- It is more accurate than the singer-songwriter tag. :-) I think I've had to remove it only once or twice. I'd wait until the song pages are standardized though since removing the section breaks the "click here to add/edit tags" on the What's Playing page. Kelli (talk) 16:57, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
- Oh, I didn't know taking that off broke the add/edit links! We could add a template with a note that instrumental tunes have been checked and don't have lyrics? Say, {{No lyrics}}. That way people won't be redoing the work. Same with spoken word stuff, it won't have lyrics either.
- I think artists like Joel Mabus will need some scrutiny because they do a lot of both vocal and instrumental
- The link used to just go to the song page in general, but now it assumes "section 4" and removing the lyric section changes the number. I think the template is a good idea. I'm not sure what all Jim has planned for the song pages (to be like the artist pages) but he said it would fix the problem. Kelli (talk) 18:40, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
- That makes sense! It looks like the bots removed the lyrics section from things tagged instrumental a while back. If there's a fix in the plans the only songs to be concerned about are the ones that have been tagged instrumental since then or haven't yet been tagged instrumental.
I have figured out that in doing lyrics, I sometimes come across a cut in a CD that does not have the form for lyrics. I thought maybe someone messed up or sumpin, so I put the form back on. I did this twice, each time not being able to find the lyrics from the artist's website. Then!!! I realized that the form thingie was omitted from WWR because there were no lyrics provided. Now (little smilie shocked face) I realize it's probably because it's an instrumental. duhhhhhhhh ReWoven (talk) 17:44, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
- Sparx, thanks for the question. You are right, I enjoy tagging. My idea with tagging is to make the best choices for interesting shows. As to the Instrumental tag and having the bots remove the lyrics section. I have one thought and that is there are probably more than several songs that have Instrumental versions and versions with the lyrics. If the pages are still coming up under the song title with multiple versions of songs that may cause a problem. I have been pretty busy the last 2 weeks with stuff so that may have changed. I have been removing the lyrics part by hand on songs where it was obvious.

Last night I listened to about half of Albums:Hammers & Strings as an ad hoc test of the accuracy of Instrumental tags. The album is about half instrumentals and half tunes with vocals. About half were mistagged regarding instrumental or not. Something to keep an ear to going forward. sparx (talk) 05:11, May 12, 2008 (AKDT)
Anyone agree we should close this issue out. It seems like the tags need cleaning up, which will happen over time. DogNut (talk) 04:47, May 28, 2008 (AKDT)
