WWR is in a hightened period of transition as we gear up to mass mail artists about the changes on the WWR website, and as we assist Jim in reducing his WWR work and worry load.

Below are prioritized needs for the website. The priorities will change, so check this page often.

Thanks for taking part in building a top-notch resource for independent artists and listeners.

Higher priority needs

(Note that there are other ways to contribute at the bottom of the page.)

  • We need every artist to have a minimum of their bio taken from their website/MySpace, etc. and pasted either in whole or in part on the bio section of their artist page. The only way to tell if an artist has a bio is to click on their name. So, as every song plays, click the artist name and if there is no bio, add one.
  • We need people to give their opinions (more than the star rankings) on songs they feel strongly about. Click the song title of any song playing that you feel strongly about and add your opinion under "Listener Opinions". Or, if you want to give an opinion of the artist, click their name and put your opinion there. Same with the album. Bottom line is this: musicians love feedback. Give it to them - especially if it is positive.
  • Whenever an artist is playing and the "click here to add the artist image" comes up, find an image (personal looking, not a CD cover if possible) and upload it. This is the image that shows in What's playing, Last played and the like.
  • Artist bio images - the images that go in the body of the artists' page. For these use the naming convention, name of artist-bio.jpg. Basically, the name used by WWR for the artist with -bio.jpg appended to the end. Note: There are many already on file, but not showing on the page right now. Bots may be renaming these images with the bio image naming convention. So, hold off on these for now.
  • Embed videos in artist pages from YouTube. You can go to an artist's page, click the YouTube link, see if there are any videos, if so, copy the embed code, put it in the Video template (as many videos as you want but a max of four is usually a good idea) and save.
  • If you love lyrics, every song page has an area for lyrics. Find the lyrics and paste them in. Imagine a system where, when a song came on, you could click and immediately see the lyrics for every song playing. Now, instead of imagining it, help make it happen. (Please identify which artist wrote the lyrics you are posting - there are often many songs with the same title!) Here are some artists who provide lyrics on their websites - you might want to check their all their songs to see if they have lyrics cut and pasted in yet.
  • Add descriptions for the tags. Wikipedia often has a page on the tag subject. You can copy a line or two and link to the page for reference. See Category:Scat for an example.
  • We need people to generally take an interest in areas of the site having to do with the core mission of providing a non-commercial non-hyped place where people can discover independent music in the singer-songwriter, folk, jazz and blues genres. Anything you can do in order to help with that core mission is much appreciated.

Other very useful ways to contribute

There are an unlimited number of ways to contribute to the content of this site. Just use the edit tab at the top of most pages. Don't be afraid to mess up. Someone more experienced will help out if you do. And thanks for being a part of the community by contributing useful content.

Why contribute to this site?

The foremost reason to contribute to the Whole Wheat Radio website is because you want to. But the bottom line is that this site depends entirely on your content contributions to remain vibrant and succeed in it's mission to bring attention to independent music. Some people need to be reminded that in order to chat, they are required to contribute meaningful content to this site.

You can create and comfortably make mistakes, because no one will scold you for doing something wrong. It's not the WWR way, and it's not the wiki way.

Who can contribute?

Any WWR listener with a website account. (Click the 'Create account / log in' link at the top of the page. You only need to provide a username and password. Provide an email address, if you ever want to recover a forgotten password. Email addresses are never revealed to users, and WWR will never give, or sell, your email address to anyone.)
