Make a new page

The two common methods are:

Method 1: In the "Search box" in the left panel of your browser window, type the name of the page you would like to create, then click the "Go" button. When the title is not found, a page appears with a link to "create this page". Click the link.
Method 2: Click "Edit" at the top of any page.
Another page opens with an edit box. In the edit box, make a wiki link using the name/title of the page you want to create; like this, [[Page name]]
Then click, "Show preview". When the preview appears, the link is red. Click it.

With either method, when the page with an edit box appears, enter your text in the edit box. Click the "Show preview" button to see how your content will be displayed. Previews are temporary and not saved.

When you are done writing, click the "Save page" button.

Note: All page names must start with a capital letter. The MediaWiki software will change any initial lower case page titles to upper case.

General principles

  • Search to see whether someone has written a similar page before you start one yourself. Choose the title carefully.
  • Review conventions of the project you are working in regarding e.g.:
    • naming conventions; see also Style guidelines.
    • whether a separate page is justified; perhaps it is better to add the text to a related page (especially if the text is not very long); that page can always be split later, after it has grown.
  • While creating the page and before saving it, click the "What links here" link on the creation page. Align the new content with existing links, or change the new title, or fix the other links.
  • If nothing points here, the page is isolated. Links to it will need to be added on other pages.
