Category page limit
I changed a systemwide default of listing basically all the members of any category (technically, it would list the first 10,000 before giving a "Next 10,000" link for page 2) because when you click on a big category like Category:Blues songs, I thought it was more convenient to not have to page through to get to "R" for example. But I changed it now to show 200 items (because of emoticons) and then you have to page. What do you think? It's easy for me to change it back or to another limit. - At the risk of sounding even more like a yes man, this a good change, will make it much easier to use and navigate huge lists, like Category:Rubenerd's albums. Well maybe not yet for that example, but I'm hoping eventually there will be enough links in that category to hit a 200 limit one day

Much easier on dial-up. For images, I found wikicommons with the 200-per-page limit even with broadband was slow, so I think broadbanders will like this, too. I feel that 200 is a perfect number for this and it's been well tested on the wikipedia and related sites.
- I'm working on a {{CategoryTOC}} for these. CategoryTOC works fine in the main namespace, but I'm fiddling with one for the other namespaces. sparx (talk) 04:51, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
- I think it's a good change, especially if it helps users on dial-up. Kelli (talk) 05:30, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
- FWIW re dialup users. I have selfishly lost all compassion for dialup and need to be reminded. Mentally and emotionally, I've given up trying to remain "backward compatible" - it feels like having to consider people who might still be using IE Version 2 or something. But I do remember what it was like to be dialup and my "spiritual" side says it's downright mean for me to ignore and be so discriminatory. So I'm glad y'all mentioned dialup and ask you to keep in mind it's seldom a consideration in my thought process these days so keep reminding me - especially if you're on it.

- Looks good to me. If the list is just text like song names, then 10000 might not be too bad. However, if the list had images in it, it could end up being a really huge page to download. I really like the option {{CategoryTOC}} sparx created to navigate the large category lists!!

Yes! I've seen that over at Wikipedia - awesome sparx! When we have big things happen like that, a note on Community news is probably a good idea. (There's probably a good reason she didn't write one.) I saw she was playing with it but didn't bother to check it out. Thanks for the headsup.

- Update - I find myself missing some lists (like tags) being on one page. I definitely wouldn't want any more than 200 images on a page though, so I can live with it. Kelli (talk) 04:53, May 29, 2008 (AKDT)
Have included {{CategoryTOC}} on all tag pages
Yeah. Now in {{Tag Category Page}}. All tag pages are going start with {{Tagcat}} shortly I think anyway. Confusing huh? Jimbob (talk) 12:23, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
Have now put {{Tagcat}} in all tag pages
Not that it belongs on this page, but I had bots replace the older multi-line stuff on all Tags pages with Kelli's simple, one line {{Tagcat}}. So, whenever someone adds a new tag, the idea is to just remember to put {{Tagcat}} on it. Jimbob (talk) 12:57, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
