Linux
From WWR
Linux is a computer operating system and its kernel. It is one of the most prominent examples of free software and of open-source development; unlike proprietary operating systems such as Windows, all of its underlying source code is available to the public for anyone to freely use, modify, improve, and redistribute.
Whole Wheat Radio compatibility
Using and tinkering with Linux is a great way to learn about how computers work, but is it possible to get your Whole Wheat Radio freak on while you do it? Short answer: yes!
It is certainly true that in the past Linux was harder to configure and use than either Microsoft Windows or the Apple Macintosh, but with modern "distributions" (a pre-packaged Linux system you can download and install) such as Kubuntu, Fedora and PCLinuxOS, an average computer user can be up and running in no time.
Most of these distributions also come bundled with standard applications that can be used to view, chat in and edit the Whole Wheat Radio website such as Mozilla Firefox and Konqueror, and listen to the Whole Wheat Radio audio streams such as amaroK. In the unusual case where these applications aren't provided by the installer, most distributions come with package managers that let you easily add and upgrade software.
