My husband and I drive up north to Fairbanks every October to watch the leaves changing across the state. We booked a yurt at Chena Hot Springs, our destination, just so we could say we stayed in a yurt. Unfortunately, a new clerk at the hotel had done our booking for us, and she was not supposed to let anyone have the yurt after September 1st -- because it had no fireplace and no other source of heat. It was ten degrees that night, and my husband and I braved the cold as we listened to the wolves howling outside. The next day, sore, exhausted, and freezing, I decided that I will always be a city girl, and I wrote this song.
