Lyrics
Little Red Vega
words and music by Tim Foley and Cate Doefer
(A7) Cruisin around, 'bout Seventy Six (G7)
(A7) 8 track blastin' a tune by Styx (G7)
(A7) a trip to mickey D's or to the flicks (G7)
(A7) up to my usual bag of tricks (G7)
Naked in a Vega Late Seventy Eight
way past curfew, gettin' late
fog on the windows, you can almost taste
prom dress crumpled up around her waist
Chorus:
(D7-9) Little Red Vega you make me smile,
(A7) radio's stuck, ain't got no dial,
(D7-9) ain't got no speed, ain't got no style,
(G7+) please just squeeze out another mile.
Alice Cooper concert, Nineteen Eighty
Lonestar beer, many bodies, weighty
the cop looked just like Warren Beatty
Saginaw and back, one dependable lady
On the edge with my Vega mid Eighty Two
Nobody knew what they were gonna do
Friday night, postpone with a mug of brew
Those years grew wings, they really flew
Chorus
Workin' like a dog in Eighty Five
a wonder this Vega's still alive
a can of oil every day to help her thrive
kiss the ground every place that I arrive
Traded her away for pocket change
interior showing signs of mange
new owner drove away, it was all arranged
couldn't help feeling a little strange.
Chorus
So many cars since, they come and go
Most are ok, some are so-so
You don't see many Vegas anymo'
Just an occasional flaming Pinto
In a field, kickin' up late summer dust
thinkin' about the two of us
I stumbled on a pile of orange rust
Little Red Vega joined the heavenly chorus
Lyrics & Music September 2004.
Cate's comments
This song was featured in CarTalk on NPR, show #200624. Very autobiographical. It's about Tim's first car. I went to that Alice Cooper concert with him (and his fiancee, and way too many other people, hence the "many bodies, weighty" line)
