Trivia, story behind the song, etc.
Just poking a little fun at Alaska's best heard (if not best seen) citizens. Tom's voice-overs on those Motel 6 commercials have overshadowed his great talent as a writer.
Lyrics
Chorus: I’m livin’ in a Motel 6 Just as lonely as a man can get Cause my wife is leavin’ the light on For a guy named Tom Bodett Verse 1: The trim is peach, the door is what Can only be called sea green I have to admit, I’m not crazy About their color scheme But the price is right And they know my name So I guess here’s where I’ll stay Since that guy from Homer, Alaska Lives in my house across the bay Verse 2: The shower is sort of circular With a curtain that doesn’t work And the towels are just about as thin As the fabric of my shirt But the price is right And they know my name And there’s cable on a color TV But when the voice of that guy from Homer comes on A little light dies inside of me Verse 3: If there’s any justice in this world If karma is what it’s made out to be Tom will lose his lucrative voice overs And he’ll have to change places with me The price is right And they’ll know his name And he can have the room I’m in So that guy from Homer, Alaska Can have the motel light left on for him
