Trivia, story behind the song, etc.
I woke up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve with this guitar arrangement in my head and recorded it before dawn. Latin words by John Francis Wade; music likely by John Reading, published in France circa 1751. Wade was an English musician living in Catholic community in France, where he worked as a music teacher and publisher. Translated to English in 1841 by Frederick Oakeley, a British minister who believed that congregations would sing more vigorously if they had fine hymns to sing. [1]
