History

My take on the Palestine/Israel thing... There's grief, horror, villains & victims on both sides of this conflict & I like to think I've kept pretty much to the middle ground in this song. There's enough rhetoric floating around out there without me adding my bias. I wrote it about the time of the Israeli incursions into the Jenine camps. The last verse originally had a token reference to Jesus. I revised it after the death of Rachel Corrie, a young American Peace Activist.

Lyrics

Road to Palestine Stephen Lomas 2002

There's blood on the sand there's a bomb on the bus
There's a madman pointin' his finger at us
Blood on the road wreckage all around
Blood in the sky as the sun goes down.
God bless the meek & the children with guns
Yeah God must love us everyone
God must love us, it's gotta be true
He loves Smith & Wesson, Kalishnikov too
Down there by the crossroads, they’re lookin’ for a sign
But no-one knows which way to go on the Road to Palestine.
Daniels harp plays a heartbreak sound
Lines are drawn through the center of town
Liberty’s long been lost at sea
So long ago now don’t matter to me (remember the Liberty...)
The tv camera’s got a one eyed stare
Can’t see God ‘cause he ain’t there
Out of the sky see the fallin’ dove
It’s buried in the rubble next to peace & love.
Mountains fall away, there’s nothin’ left behind
But tears & tank tracks in the dust on the Road to Palestine.
Do you stand in the middle do you hide in the crowd
Do you hang on the fringe do you yell real loud
Remember Rachel Corrie when she made her stand
Would you stand beside her would you hold her hand
Crescent moon sits helpless, in the ancient empty sky
Stars are only teardrops on the Road to Palestine
