Talk:How-to FAQ

From WWR

(Redirected from Talk:Wiki howto Q&A)
Jump to: navigation, search

Ask questions here about how to do things on the WWR wiki. Please don't be shy - the person who knows the answer once had to ask the very same question!

(Please sign with four tildes (~~~~).) If you don't know how, it's OK! Type four ~~~~ at the end of your question. (That key is usually in the upper left-hand corner of the keyboard.) When you save the page the wiki automagically turns those four characters into a link to your user page.

copyrights

When one uploading photos for tags or artists, etc, is there a way to check if there is a copyright?Sharpston (talk) 13:43, May 14, 2008 (AKDT)

Copyright information is usually found on the page where the photo is found. On the artist's website for instance. Some websites state that everything on the website is copyrighted. For the most part if the photo is taken from the artists website we've been using them with the assumption that they would approve of the promotion (this might not always be the case).
If they are from an website other than the artist's, look for copyright notices and if you're concerned IMO it's best to err on the side of caution. We haven't been doing it, but it might be useful to include the URL of the page where you found the photo in the "comments" section when you upload a photo.
Also, be alert for photos that say something like, "use this photo only if you give credit to the photographer." In this case include the photographer's name in the comments when uploading the photo.
If we run into a case where someone doesn't want us to use a photo(s), we will remove it immediately upon their request.
I suppose it's important to note that WWR's handling of copyrighted visual material is much different than wikipedia's. Anyone accustomed to how images are handled on wikipedia will notice that WWR isn't as strict.
Thanks for asking! sparx (talk) 14:06, May 14, 2008 (AKDT)
