Trimming Songs from the Library

  • I know some types of music like hip-hop don't really belong here, but do we need cut songs otherwise? Is it because of space available?
  • Also is there a page the explains how trimming is determined? TIA Rocky 17:03, February 4, 2008 (AKST)
In order to keep the sound quality of the station high, yes, it's necessary to trim the library regularly. Songs that don't resonate with many people (as indicated by their star rankings) get played until a certain number of people have heard them ... and if still not much starring, then they are removed by the EJs. It's not a reflection of the quality of the songs. There is not a page that gives the exact formula used for trimming because it changes based on number of listeners and other very dynamic things.
The good news is: you can do your part to keep songs in the library by ranking them and you can always buy the CD that has songs on it that are no longer available in the library! :-o Jimbob (talk) 02:30, March 4, 2008 (AKST)

Links to Email forms instead of Email addresses?

I was updating some email addresses -- and, yes, I expect the car!! (before anyone jumps on me that is A JOKE) -- and I found some email contacts that are forms rather than simple mailto: style links. These do not peacably co-exist with the pretty stickers. Suggestions? Here is an example of one: http://www.jamestalley.com/contact.php Judy_Rosella 17:46, February 23, 2008 (AKST)

Yeah, it's a problem I'm aware of. For now you can leave them since the EJs can easily clean them up later. Jimbob (talk) 02:30, March 4, 2008 (AKST)

Missing Title Track for Artist of the Day, Jeffery Pepper Roberts

Mr. Monkey, did you trade in the Title Track in for a banana? http://www.wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/Artists:Jeffrey_Pepper_Rodgers?artistnum=8993 ReWoven 13:04, February 29, 2008 (AKST)

The track was removed because enough listeners immediately gave it 1 and 2 star ranks. I don't know why. That's just what happens sometimes. Jimbob (talk) 02:30, March 4, 2008 (AKST)

WheatStock?

Hello MM , Has the Big Banana mentioned if a WheatStock will be held this yeat? TIA Rocky (talk) 19:42, March 16, 2008 (AKDT)

Listen all day and find out!

I just want to know what to tell my friend. Andy (talk) 13:45, April 2, 2008 (AKDT) andy h

Spotlight means the artist gets played once every hour throughout the day. Kelli (talk) 14:03, April 2, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks Kelli. I'll tell my friend. And thanks WWR! Andy H. et al... Andy (talk) 04:01, April 3, 2008 (AKDT)

Keeping WWR wiki account active

Dear Mr. Monkey, I was wondering: what is the time period allowed before idle accounts are deleted? I've been a fan of WWR since the old (pre-wiki) website days and signed up for the wiki when it started, but I don't log in every day. My actual activity on the site sort of happens in waves, depending on my work schedule: so sometimes I'm away for a number of months, and/or I read the site and listen to the audio magazines, but without logging in. How often should I log in to make sure that my user page and song ratings don't disappear again? From the front page it sounds like four months. In any case, I'll try to log in more often. Thanks! - Reverb (talk) 23:58, March 29, 2008 (AKDT)

If you don't log in at least once every 3 months, I turn your account into a banana and eat it.
Thanks for the info, Mr. Monkey! (BTW, neat trick with the accounts.) - Reverb (talk) 23:05, April 5, 2008 (AKDT)

Videos on artist pages...forced sizing

Mr. Monkey, with ($wwr_video_width=375) set on Template:System_artist_layout_Atuuschaaw, should a mix of Youtube and Google still give me the side by side layout? For an example: the Amy Speace page has one Youtube video which has width="425" height="355" and one Google video with "width:425px; height:355px...but yet they show up different sizes and stacked rather than side by side. Atuuschaaw (talk) 12:09, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)

And another screenshot from the artist page of Anais Mitchell where the two videos are identical but yet do not appear properly! Am I missing something dear Mr. Monkey?

Fix for Anais Mitchell page: Both videos had an extra width="425" height="350" tacked on to the end of the object. The artist page template can only replace one of them (the first one that appears after the start of object). I removed the two extraneous ones at the end and now it works.
Fix for Amy Speace: A program change was made. Google video widths and heights were being ignored. Thanks for pointing it out.
Side-by-side: The only way I could get them side-by-side was to put the Google video first. For esoteric reasons, embeds and objects may insert blank lines (and it probably varies browser to browser). Using only videos from a single source will probably allow consistency. But it's okay to mix Google/Youtube as long as you don't mind some inconsistency in some browsers.

Jimbob (talk) 13:05, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)

Now I am confused! If I'm not mistaken, all of the Youtube videos carry that extra height and width baggage at the end of their embed code. I've looked at numerous others and they don't seem to have the problem I had with the Anais Mitchell page. Here are two examples that have the additional size baggage at the end of the code: Alfred James Band and Alfie Zappacosta ::spinhead Atuuschaaw (talk) 13:46, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)
Could it be that the two Mitchell videos had different numbers, where as your other examples have the same numbers? Kelli (talk) 16:41, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)

Artist page standard/guideline

Mr Monkey, (or anyone else if they know) do we have a standard for artist bio sections? I see some with the one -bio image and others with a second image in the bio section that is flushed to the right. My question is do we have or do we want to have a standard or guideline for the artist and other key pages?? DogNut (talk) 13:12, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)

We need to check with Mr. Monkey and he's not back from his sojourn to the Bulgarian May Day celebrations. I was hoping that his bots would take care of converting existing images to -bio.jpg images. Not sure if that's even possible. I've tried a few by looking at the page's history finding a version previous to the implementation of the artists' bio template, preview, click on the image, download the full resolution image, then uploading it to the -bio.jpg. I'll ask Mr. Monkey to touch base with you when he returns. sparx (talk) 16:01, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)

User e-mail addresses

My user page used to have my e-mail address listed. Checking other users, I do not see their e-mail addresses listed. Is this a permanent change? Just curious...... Sharpston (talk/contribs) 14:54, June 30, 2008 (AKDT)
