life by the talkeetna river

Can you logoff and the back on?

Hi Firewood Joe! I was wondering if you could do me a favor? Click on "log out" there in the upper right corner and after it logs you out, click on "Log In" at the same place? I assume it currently shows you are logged in. It's funny but something kinda weird is happening with the way this site sees your cookies ... I've named it the "Firewood Joe Cookie Syndrome" in the programming! Anyway, if you can do that I'll let you know if the syndrome fixes itself or not. Oh, it's nothing bad, just unusual. logged out ( from life )

jim just saw your msg. it could be explained by a dumb thing i prefer to do. i am logged in when i come into the site from the internet, however when i come in from jetaudio i am logged out ( lurking > as opposed to lurking while being logged in ) if this doesn't explain anything let me know and when we meet online sometime i can try what you wanted in the first place. Hi Firewood Joe...we're over at the Conscious Coffe, using their internet connection, should you be out looking for us...Esther also has my cellphone number (I hate to throw it out there on the internet)

talkeetna river flood - august 18 friday nite > a view from home

the following pics were taken about 9 pm still about a foot to go til flooding. about 11 pm two fire trucks were outside with lights flashing and a guy on a loudspeaker telling everyone to pack up and get out and you had 1/2 hour to do it before flood waters hit. called a friend and packed up the dogs in two trucks and we got the hell out.Firewood joe 01:08, August 22, 2006 (AKDT)

talkeetna river flood - august 19 saturday

as quick as it came up surprisingly it went down. these pics were taken saturday am and the water had already gone down a foot or a little more. the rain had changed from a constant deluge to just a steady rain. spent the afternoon and early evening laying sandbags trying to keep the water out of east talkeetna which in the end worked.Firewood joe 01:08, August 22, 2006 (AKDT)

talkeetna river flood - august 20 sunday > some results

we moved back on sunday. first pic is of our road where two 3ft by 30ft culverts were ripped out. second pic is of gerry sousa's lot. he just bought it in the spring. the front end of the conex trailer used to be 15ft from the bank > he lost about 30 to 40ft of land. in the 86 flood this lot had a house on it and both the house and another 40 to 50 ft of land disappeared. all in all most of us are lucky > my next door neighbor had 2ft of water in his house and it is basically lost. most wells will have to be checked and everyone has to hunt down the stuff that floated out of their yards > i lost pallets, tires, a 55 gal fuel drum and gas jugs but gained stairs, coolers, and something else that i just haven't figured out what it is yet(might let it sit there til the next flood washes it away) landlocked salmon can be found in small pools of water and ditches. the local pet fox is still in shock and no bears have been sighted anywhere. did see a double rainbow on saturday evening. yes it still is a beautiful place to live.Firewood joe 01:55, August 22, 2006 (AKDT)

a simple truth

"Your life is not as harried as you are making it out to be." we all need to be reminded of this. sometimes the reminder comes in words and sometimes as a kick in the head. words are much softer. thanks for the quote Oldcajun. Firewood joe (talk) 21:41, April 20, 2008 (AKDT)
