Settling In

Well it has been almost a month now since I have settled into my new life in South/Central Florida (Okeechobee) taking over our family RV Resort. I knew for sometime how badly my father let the business go but I hadn't realized the amount of work needed to get things back to where they were in our best days (80's & 90's).

Things everywhere are falling apart or breaking down. Luckily we had the capital funds set aside to get most stuff repaired or replaced quickly. My present challenges are getting the free WIFI installed, replacing rotted docks & fish cleaning stations, and replacing exterior lighting with energy saving types.

I do love the change. As I have said before I love Alaska (summer) but I cannot physically / mentally cope with the long dark winters. Okeechobee isn't part of coastal Florida so kinda quiet on the whole. The new Home Depot makes it nice (we used to have to drive to the coast). Most folks here don't realize that I was born and grew up here in Florida so I am making the adjustment very quickly. The warm humid air has done wonders for my sinus'.

I bought a Grace wireless internet radio for my bedroom yesterday. My goodness how impressed on am with WiFi "radio" tech. WWR isn't available in the list of over 10K stations (subscription?) but you can easily add the stream onto the Reciva.com home page and push it as an option to the radio.

Contributions to WWR. This news update is about all the time I have for now. I caught a little bit of Jim's conversation on this and the Live Collaboration page. I understand the decision to again move to contributions to "chat". I don't have the time for either. I consider myself a supporter of WWR and look forward to returning to contributing after our busy season is over. I had a 17 hour day yesterday as there was a boat collision in the river and they swam ashore onto our property. I am pretty much on call 24/7 for the next 4 months. The bright side is from April to September I will have a lot of time on my hands to do many more things. I hope to update my news from time to time.

Taking dad on his dream cruise to the islands and south america in 2 weeks. Bad timing with me and the business but he has wanted this forever. He has a first cousin who never leaves Trinidad he hasn't seen in decades and was afraid he would pass before he did again. If I can figure out the gallery function I will post pics if time allows.

Going to look into "house concerts" for our rec hall. It can hold about the same audience or more than the palace.

Love to all my WWR friends. Even though you won't see me in chat/live collaboration (well never say never) I am still around.

Hoonah, it's good to read this update and I'm glad that the adjustment for you has been minimal! Sounds like you have your hands full, but I'm certain (from the way this news reads) that you are up to the task! I, personally, look forward to hearing more from you...as time marches on. Hope your trip with your dad is a relaxing much needed vacation for the both of ya!! Take care my friend!! --BlueRidge (talk/contribs) 06:52, November 23, 2008 (AKST)
