Some random thoughts, ideas and whatnot that due to my obsessive compulsive nature (heh heh) I just have to post somewhere! You can think of this page as a continuation of my RubenerdWWR wiki I used while this wiki was offline.

  • If you want to make a short comment on any of these. click the [edit] next to the appropriate heading and go nuts!
  • I post stuff here that I don't think other people would really be interested in. If you want to rip any of this off or create a new page with something from here, by all means!
  • If you want to print this page, shred the paper and use it as a cheese substitute for a grilled cheese sandwich, by all means go right ahead, though I can't vouch for the taste.

Chat only during the 11am shoe? [sic]

Not having the chat could possibly be one of the best things to have happened to WWR, because it means we are actually using the [talk] pages which are what wiki's are all about and have built in from the beginning.

The only time I think it doesn't work in my opinion is during the 11am Shoe... should we:

  • Have a chat page enabled only during the 11am Shoe?
  • Or what about a 11am Shoe discussion page that we can append to and sign with the usual ~~~~.

I guess this ties in with the formation of the Council of Elders.

Yes, yes and yes. Yes. thanks Jimbob (talk) 04:55, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)

Getting the heading back

If you're like me and much prefer having the headings on pages, you can customise your CSS! Assuming you're using the default MonoBook skin and underwear:

  1. Type the URL for your user page followed by a forward slash and monobook.css
  2. Hit the [edit] tab, then enter ".firstHeading { display:block; visibility:visible; }"

For example, mine is located at User:Rubenerd/monobook.css.

Each page will now have the heading restored.

NOTE: Some pages such as the Discussion topics page will now have two headings.

Good one. I may turn back on headings in main.css - I turned them off only because I wanted to see what song pages looked like without them since song pages now have their unique id number as part of them and I thought it looked "computerish" and ugly to have the number in the title. It was a nice side-effect on several other pages not to have the title but I also miss it on some pages. I probably need to have it as a user selectable option. Ah right okay, I guess I got a bit too far ahead of myself again! I'm really not much of a CSS expert, but I think there's a way to selectively only display a portion of a heading, so we could hide the geeky numbers but keep the song intact. Again though I think IE is a problem with doing it this way. A user selectable option might be easier and have more predicatable results. I wouldn't mind seeing geeky headings, but I think it's self explanatory why! Ruben (talk) 05:07, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)

Flying to Alaska

Denali goodness!
Denali goodness!
My dad and I have been giving some serious thought lately to doing some more travelling to help us cope with mummy's death. He wants to go back to Canada (it's his favourite place on earth!), I suggested we make a stop over in Alaska first!

I'd love to go and check out WWR, Denali and some serious nature hiking. I love nature hiking!! Plus it would be somewhere else I can tick off on my life list and another stamp in the old passport right? :-)

UPDATE: I'd love to take a ride on the Alaskan Railroad too, the views look breathtaking. A bit different to the bush in Australia or the Singapore urban urban urban jungle!

Templates under your username

If you want to create a template that you will only use on your page, or you want to keep it semi-seperate from the rest of the wiki (because it's not useful to anyone else!), create a new page:

User:YourUsername/Template:NameOfTemplate.

To use this template on your own pages, add curly brackets along with the full path including the Template keyword:

{{User:Rubenerd/Template:My_crap}}

Header links for my pages

Using what I learned from trial and error (more error than trial!) in the previous post, I created a template for all the userpages that fall under my username, hopefully to make things easier to find. I really like how Wikipedia evolved to have boxes of relevent links at the footer of some pages, I guess this was my attempt to emulate that.

"Emulate" to me sounds like a brand of denture adhesive. And I'd better be off to bed, night wheaties bye
