I love the detail

Hi BlueRidge. Esther here. I just found your page because your picture was a featured image today. I love the detail of your writing. Especially your early childhood stories, which I found by clicking on the "history" tab. Thank you for being so open. I can't believe you talk about "bigwheels"! I just got all excited recently remembering that they existed in my childhood, too! I'm thinking I might read some of your childhood stories on the air at some point... they are so colorful... they put me in a different place and time. You really have added to the richness of this website/community. Thanks again! Esther 09:39, May 9, 2006 (AKDT)

Decatur, Georgia

Hey BlueRidge! We lived in an old neighborhood in a very old white Cape Cod near Covington Highway and Wesley Chapel Road one mile outside the perimeter. I used to jog around Stone Mountain every day! Went to Georgia State for several years ('cause I liked it so much!) We were a Decatur address, but we were actually closer to Avondale. I enjoyed reading about your Decatur childhood very much! Cate 06:10, May 19, 2006 (AKDT)

We were in Atlanta/Decatur area from 1986 to 1996. We were in the house in Decatur from about 1989 on. I do remember the Little Pig BBQ and the Honda Motorcycle store! Small world! :-) Cate 05:29, May 20, 2006 (AKDT)

Helps

Looks like you are one of the "wheathead wiki gurus" around here. I'm trying to learn this wiki format and the different commands that work in the text. I dont know if there is a page for this type of information and if so I couldnt find it, specifically for items such as "forced returns, tabs, creating columns, etc... maybe it is rudimentay HTML format language but would be helpful to have a resource for what the different commands might be. I went to the help screen with the bold, italics, etc... maybe some additional expansion to this help. BlueRidge 05:05, May 19, 2006 (AKDT)

Thanks for asking the questions, BlueRidge! And thanks for the wonderful pages you've started and added to.
As I said in the chat, documentation is being written as we go. Some places to look for info are:
About tabs. wiki markup for a tab is a colon (:), multiple colons for additional tabs. Dunno if it'll work in chat because of the WWR markup for emoticons. (OMG, it just dawned on me we have three markup languages -- HTML, wiki and WWR. Plus CSS.)
Columns need to be done with HTML tables (or CSS, but that complicates matters). There is wiki markup to do tables, but HTML works just as well and knowing HTML tables is more versitile since it can be used on any website.
Please add to the relevant WWR pages any of the basics we may have glossed over. My talk page is always open for questions, as is The Mill. (Sparkit 07:28, May 19, 2006 (AKDT))

Zodiac signs added

Horoscope Pages

Started working on Horoscope Pages beginning with Aquarius. In one section I want to show WWR listeners for Aquarius. I copied table from Birthday page but cant figure unsure what the code would be to show only Aquarius from the table of listeners. BlueRidge 15:19, May 28, 2006 (AKDT)

Can't do it right now. Good idea though. I may forget it if it's left on this page - if you just swipe this and put it on Feature Requests I'll be sure to do it. That'll be cool. Jimbob 15:21, May 28, 2006 (AKDT)
Okay, you can now put the zodiac sign you want where the 'all' was and it'll just list those listeners with that zodiacal sign. Check out Aquarius for an example. Jimbob 02:56, May 29, 2006 (AKDT)

Weather changes

When you asked yesterday about our weather, I mentioned the high wispy clouds and that I expected a change in about 24 hours. Just wanted to let you know it's raining here today. Cub Driver 12:22, August 9, 2006 (AKDT)

Great Site

Just wanted to add how much I enjoy your pages. I downloaded some of the mandolin charts. Thanks,, keep up the interesting stories and pics! Messtaken August 10,2006, hope I'm not messing up this page.

Baumann house concert

Thanks for webcasting the Baumann concert yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

FYI: I started a page about the concert, but didn't add much detail. Rich Baumann House Concert at BlueRidge's

--sparx 05:49, November 6, 2006 (AKST)

Yes, it was great! I think it would be awesome if you could add something about "how you did it," re webstreaming etc...That way we can learn from each other. Once I get my downstairs finished I'm hoping to have some house concerts. Have thought I would record them but I'm inspired by your efforts to try and webcast maybe as well. Onthebus 09:20, November 6, 2006 (AKST)

BlueRidge

You do appear to be a WWR "insider". I enjoyed all of you writings, pictures, etc. YA DA MAN!! Keep up the good work...

Happy Birthday, BlueRidge!

I hope you have a wonderful birthday and I'd like to take this opportunity to let you know how much I have enjoyed your web page and the pictures you have shared at WWR. See you in the wheat fields! Fine-line 11:36, February 14, 2007 (AKST)

Hay Randy, Happy freggin' Birthday ! Hideous harpy 2008 =D

Doh! ::frogbath

I've got to tell you that was one of the FUNNIEST things I've EVER heard on WWR: you taking a shower on a phonegram! rotfl I just hope your phone is fixable and that you didn't get into too much trouble with Mrs. BlueRidge for doing such a stunt. You made WWR history, as far as I'm concerned! Fine-line 07:06, June 24, 2007 (AKDT)

Tweaking with GIMP

before
before

Randy hope you don't mind but I stole your picture labeled BR Mrs and tweaked it a bit to see if I could compensate for the low apature setting when the pix was taken because of the window in the background. In other words, I made you and the Mrs lighter while keeping the background the same. Gimp is free Open Source program, used mostly with Linux but is avaliable for Winders, and rivals Photoshop. The GIMP user interface does take some time to learn, hence practicing like what I just did never hurts. If you decide to download and use GIMP, let me know and I should be able to give ya a few good links to learn the program.

Sending Care

Hi BlueRidge, Woke up thinking about your wife this morning and wanted to let you know she's in my thoughts, as are you. Sending you both love and healing energy, so she can get back to good health. Love to you both, Laura ReWho 07:00, October 30, 2007 (AKDT)

Blocking bots

Hiya Blue ---

Thanks for removing the droppings from the spammer today on the Who's Listening. Here's a heads up ... also make sure to block the user or else they can come back and do more spamming. You do that by left-hand menu "Special Pages" and then scroll to the very bottom (it's in a special section) and "Block User". Plus, that gives me a real headsup that we have another situation where spammer bots are getting in and once I see it happen enough, I try to modify the code to block them. Thanks again for all your help. I love havin' ya'll help keep the system clean ... feels like a big brother watching out for me when the bullies start picking on poor little 'ol me... :-) Jimbob 09:37, November 15, 2007 (AKST)

You have the Christmas Spirit exactly right, Randy! Very sweet that you made the page for help, concerning your friend's burned out home. I have heard that burned out homes are kind of a cleaning out of karma in a speeded up fashion. Wow! What a shock for them. I'm so glad that no one was hurt and they all have a chance to rebuild together and feel and accept the support of the community. It also gives the community a chance to come together, too. Many blessings, really, including yourself in strengthing your spiritual/love/helping muscles. Keep working from the heart, dear one. ReWho 16:28, December 3, 2007 (AKST)

Wood Stove Info

GREAT Stove info from Kazoo - saved for future reference: Really almost an ideal situation, Randy. Before you can arrive at any firm dimensions you really need to decide on a particular stove and get the clearance specs from the dealer for the stove you want. But basically, the floor under the stove will need a base of refractory board with a ceramic tile or brick on top that must extend 8 inches beyond the stove on each side and 18 inches in front of the stove. The required base could be applied directly over the existing tile and wood floor to the required footprint making that part of the installation neat and simple, backer, tile, and the perimeter edge finished off with a varnished wood trim.

The right side wall is a little close, and will likely require a refractory backer and tile or brick to a height of 4 feet. How close you can get the stove to the wall in back of it is also determined by the materials, typically for a finish wall like dry wall or knotty pine it is a minimum of 36 inches from the wall to the back of the stove. So in that case if the stove is 2 feet deep, plus 3 feet from the wall, plus 18 inches of hearth in front of it, that would make the hearth extend 6 feet 6 inches from the back wall and the front of the stove would be 5 feet from the wall. Giving the wall in back of the stove a refractory backerboard sheathing with tile or brick finish would reduce that clearance to 18-24 inches, depending on the stove, so the front of the stove would then be 3 and 1/2 feet from the wall and the hearth would extend 5 feet into the room from the back wall. Removing the fire place becomes a simple process, since the knotty pine wall around it needs to be removed to a height of 4 or 5 feet and given the refractory sheathing and tile finish and while the wall is open facilitates running the insulated wood stove chimney.

Reverted featured artist image in the template

Hey BlueRidge,

I reverted that really cool "display the featured artist of the day image" in the featured template. I hated to do it because it was a really really creative (and sort of complicated!) idea. But I kept looking and thinking "Wow - it increases that banner size quite a bit and shoves the active chat down the screen requiring a scroll if anything new has been typed." It just took up a lot of screen real estate.

If it would have been easy to produce a smaller thumbnail, I would have done that in a second. Or if I could have figured out a place to put it on the screen that is currently whitespace. I really liked your concept a lot. If you see anywhere to stick the image that is currently whitespace, let me know. That top of the screen banner is so tempting, but if we're not careful, it'll grow more huge than it already is.

Looking at how many links there are on every wiki page, it's clear that the only real answer will be when they make screens that have 2 or 3 times as much visual space on them.

Thanks again for the outstanding addition. I never thought of it. It was good. I'm completely open to being over-ridden though if several people think the image doesn't really push the chat screen down too far or if there's another way to squeeze it in there - or ... put "make a smaller artist thumbnail" in Feature requests cuz maybe that'd be possible???????

Jimbob 08:02, February 1, 2008 (AKST)

Hey - I just realized something - maybe it's because the "Live Event" top-of-page banner is there too and that once that's turned off, the chat output screen won't seem so far down the the page. I'll give it a shot to see after the concert. I wish Sparx / J-Walk was around cuz they are both very good at layout challenges like this. Jimbob 08:06, February 1, 2008 (AKST)

Message from Smileysmom2

Hey, BlueRidge, I've been fooling around and finally figured out how to do a bunch of things, including this--to thank you for helping me out the first day and setting me up with a template for my user page. Still haven't figured out how to send someone an email, though.--smileysmom2

Good luck to you Blue Ridge. I was reading back this morning when you and Jac were talking. Dadgumit, there is a whole bunch of change in the air, these days. I hope that you land with a job that is right for you soon, where both you and the company benefit. My thoughts and prayers are with you! ReWoven 09:33, February 8, 2008 (AKST)

Happy Birthday Baby

Wish you all the best - Happy Birthday Chili

What Counts

I'm younger! LOL (thanks for the BD Wish laying low today ton of work) Hoonah

Direct artist link

BR - I would do it myself, but it's your design and I like it so much. I was hoping you could use your flair for greasy spoonery and add a direct link' to the artist's website' on the right-hand side there somewhere. (Maybe after the link to their WWR page in parenthesis ???? whatever --- and I can't think of a good term for it.???) The reason is that so often to get Artist/Album/Song information, you know you're going to have to go to the artist's website. Having to click on the WWR page and then scroll to the bottom and then click on the website is frustrating. Anyway - hope all is well with you and you don't mind doing that ... if you do, just let me know or ignore me.

Lyrics

Please specify which version you are adding lyrics for when there is more than one choice. I've noticed it on a couple Songs:Hurricane and Songs:Heartland. Thanks. Kelli (talk) 09:27, March 10, 2008 (AKDT)

Br I probably messed up a version of Dream On - I can help fix it - I thought I was contributing to an aerosmith version then later saw many others I did mess it up with replacing lyrics and tags etc. help me out if you want to sorry Chili (talk)

You are such a sweetie, Blue Ridge, to contact me about the lyric post. What I great idea you came up with. I didn't know that was your idea but, yes, you're right about it so apply coming from a song. I always like doing the thought for the day so this is a bit of a carry over and a great way to add lyrics to songs too, when I have the time. I think of you and your new job once in a while and hope that you are doing well with it and they are appreciating you as much as we do. Love to you and the Mrs. and kids, ReWoven (talk) 10:50, April 18, 2008 (AKDT)

Healing thoughts & prayers to Atuu & his family

Randy,

I'd like to express my warm, healing thoughts to Atuu, and my best wishes to him and his family!

Get well, Bro -- you can beat this!

Stewart aex (talk) 08:34, May 19, 2008 (AKDT)

BR, I tried sending you an e-mail through WWR mail, but I haven't heard back, so I'll assume it didn't make it through. I'd love it if you could send me Atu's address. My personal e-mail is cdoefer@hotmail.com (this week Image:Wink.gif ) Thanks for alerting all of us. Cater (talk) 09:48, May 19, 2008 (AKDT)

I also tried sending an email. Kelli (talk) 09:49, May 19, 2008 (AKDT)
Hi there Randy. Could you email me Atuu's address please at peterdale@xtra.co.nz Peterdale

I didn't do it!

BR, I just requested your Moods show and it came up with the slightly snotty dedication of "It's all about me." I didn't write that! (I hope the writer was joking.) — Mert (talk) 02:59, May 22, 2008 (AKDT)

Breakfast regular favs

Geez, BR! Thanks for adding Redsy to the parameters for this particular show. I can't believe I forgot to add her! Where's my brain? Image:Dohhh.gif Cater (talk) 05:23, May 26, 2008 (AKDT)

JJW and Luckenbach

Hey BR....Things have changed, it seems around here. Hope all is well. I took a side trip thru Luckenbach on the way back up from San Antonio. There are quite a few references to JJW around that place. Alos, found a cool JJW/Luckenbach vid on Youtube last night. Good stuff.

WWR Birdhouses

Hey Randy - I think WWR birdhouses would be really neat. I have no idea if anyone would buy any or not so I'd suggest starting with just one or two. I'd proudly display them here and also ship etc. if someone bought one online. Locals probably wouldn't buy one although it's really hard to say. Anyway, if you're into it, go for it. Tell me what you want to charge, and I'll charge that and probably tack on $5 for WWR. Thanks! Oh, and it'd be fun to build a page here for them. Jim (talk/contribs) 16:40, July 15, 2008 (AKDT)
