PLS file assocation

Hi Davey,

Saw your request in chat this AM. Something to TRY here (no guarantees but it might be a different way of approaching the problem and that may get it)..

1) On desktop (or anywhere) right mouse / NEW / text document / but CHANGE FILE EXTENSION FROM .txt to .pls What we're doing here is creating anyfile.pls on your system

2) Point to newly created file, right mouse / OPEN WITH / select JetAudio. If Jetaudio doesn't appear in the list, then CHOOSE PROGRAM and work your way into "C:\Program Files\JetAudio\JetAudio.exe" and click on it. Then make sure and CLICK ON THE BOX that says "Always use this program to open this type of file". What you're doing is pointing to the program (the .EXE) that will always open a .PLS type file.

I realize you've probably already done this or something similar and that you're very computer savvy. The difference here is that you've actually created a .PLS on your system to associate Jetaudio with. Oftentimes just telling the PROGRAM to associate itself with a filetype doesn't do it because other programs have made it difficult/impossible to do that. But the way I just showed you, you're telling Windows itself how to open that file.

Another hint: Once you've done that, you should see the icon associated with Jetaudio on the .PLS file. If you don't, then I'm guessing the association didn't take. If it were me, I'd do something bogus like associate the .PLS file with Word or Notepad or something ... working to get the dang icon to change to whatever program it should be. Once that happens then I'd know that I actually was changing the association and should be finally able to change it to Jetaudio.

OTOH, if a lot of playing around has been done on the system and lots of programs have messed with the audio associations, it may be next to impossible to fix. Unfortunately, audio programs (and now video) are notorious for trying to "steal" your associations. Vendors all want to be the next ABC/CBS/NBC tunnel combined.

Oh, one other thing ... point to any FOLDER and click to get into that folder. Then TOOLS / FOLDER OPTIONS / FILE TYPES ... gets you to a panel where you can really change file associations in detail. I assume that's where you've been doing it. Just mentioning it in case you weren't aware and wanted to goof around there.

Good luck!

Jim, it is kind of you to take so much time to offer advice. I've done everything I can think of or research. Cleaned and repaired registry, etc. Unfortunately, the file association always correctly shows as tied to Jet, but I continue to get the "up yours" error ("associated helper program does not exist") when trying to link to the WWR feed or any other using PLS. I cleaned everything out then tried your suggestions, but same result.

I'm afraid I have to give up, after wasting most of the day on this. Thanks, again.
