Song Tags
Isn't there a standard for song tags? I would think that there should be a hierarchy: Type of singing, type of instruments, Type of music, then cutesies like Mellow or Pretty or funny. Scobey (talk) 14:50, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)
Moving this here - song tags used to have mood, instrument, theme, etc. and it was changed to just be a generic "Tag|" to simplify the process. Kelli (talk) 14:56, May 6, 2008 (AKDT) Retrieved from "http://www.wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Scobey"
I understand. To clarify. I have seen a lot of songs with maybe 3 tags: Singer songwriter, Slow, Pretty. This doesn't tell me much. What instruments are played? Is it Folk or Pop? Is it a Solo or duo? I'm suggesting that there should be a minimum of answers to those questions. Not just Funny or Mellow. Scobey (talk) 15:10, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)
Kelli, Kelli, Kelli!
Thanks for your kind words!
Hehe, I admit I created that testbed wiki because I'm so addicted to editing pages, so when that ability was taken away from me it was torture! I still think the editing page does need some work, but I'll transfer all the files and text over here once I've finished my weekend homework.
Good to be back huh? :-)

Sounds Like
So we are using "sounds like" now? Just checking so I don't merge tag categories that I'm not supposed to. Thanks. Kelli (talk) 15:21, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)
- Yeah, I am anyway. "Sounds like Paul Simon" or "Sounds like Joni Mitchell". Does that work for you? Seemed easy enough to remember. Jimbob (talk) 15:23, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)
- Fine with me. Just wondering since last I knew we were using the "cover" tag to differentiate "sounds like" and "cover". This is probably less confusing. Kelli (talk) 15:25, May 4, 2008 (AKDT)
Editing
Kelli, I see in the recent changes file you are continuing to do a lot of editing. How do you determine which files require editing? Is there a list of "things to be done"? I'm finding my usefulness here waning. Cub Driver 12:04, May 5, 2008 (AKDT)
- Hi, Cub. Um, I search through the special pages - specifically Special:Wantedcategories and Special:Wantedpages. Those sometimes tell me categories that need to be created, but more often they are useful for finding typos in song tags and things. I tend to go through tag categories a lot to find duplicates and unnecessary ones. Kelli (talk) 12:15, May 5, 2008 (AKDT)
- Thanks Kelli. Wiki has never been my strong suit, so I guess I didn't make the cut this time. It seems to me that WWR is no longer about music, it's about programming with a minor in music. I wish you luck. Should you ever be out riding horses and see a shadow cross your path, look up; you don't want to get hit by a falling pizza. Then again, maybe things like that don't happen in Kansas.
::hehe Thanks for all your help. Cub Driver 18:36, May 5, 2008 (AKDT)- Stick around? I'll be here, watch for my shadow. Being in Alaska, I can contribute to WWR in ways that others can't. Photos? Probably not, they aren't related to the music. Cub Driver 12:39, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)

Thank You
Thanks for the song pages! I think it will be a very good change.
- You're welcome. Me too. Thanks for the encouragement in the face of so much criticism from so many others. I'll read your email card later today. Jimbob (talk) 08:06, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)
Thanks
Thanks for the note, Kelli. Can you delete the one I created? 65strat (talk) 08:19, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)

Folk Pop definition
Hiya - saw you tagged Artists:Mary Catherine Reynolds Songs:That_Song_About_The_Midway_(123852) as folk-pop. I was wondering what your definition of folk pop is? Just so we can correlate. I heard a solo vocalist with just her guitar i.e. "Girl with guitar". To me, any "Pop" would normally have a band sound, often electric, and something that might appeal to the mainstream or the 15-25 age group. I am not the arbiter of how we define music genres but am curious as to how you think/hear "Pop" music. That way I can either modify my definition, etc. and/or we can put something on the Category:Folk pop page to help define it. Thanks!
- Uh, I can't really answer that. I suck at genres. I usually take my cue from CD Baby. That album isn't on their site but sounds similar to other things they've classified as folk pop. It really wouldn't bother me if someone removed it, but I don't know what I'd write as a definition. Kelli (talk) 19:14, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)
- I'm going to put it up on Current discussions. Jimbob (talk) 19:18, May 6, 2008 (AKDT)
Seldom used tags
Just wanted to make sure you saw this Feature_requests#List_seldom_used_tag_categories__COMPLETE - hope that's it! Jimbob (talk) 14:23, May 7, 2008 (AKDT)
Past chats category
I'm glad you liked the chats category. I think this could be a great thing eventually, I'm imagining being able to go back in time several years and look back on what we were chatting about!
Or it could be I'm a touch obsessive compuslive and the idea of having stray pages was keeping me up at night
Hope you're having a great day! --Ruben (talk) 16:46, May 7, 2008 (AKDT)
Heads up
Kelli, I ended up buying and downloading the compilation album that's Cater's top ten: Songs for Laura. (I also got Dogwood Winter—thanks!) It's really good, but there's an exceptional song you should hear: "Ragdoll" by Gavin Glass and the Holy Shakers. Here's his myspace: [1]. You can hear it there. This guy reminds me of a cross between Jimmy LaFave and Jeff Tweedy/Wilco. It's weird, because he's Irish! — Mert (talk) 06:17, May 8, 2008 (AKDT)
- Oops, guess I should've copied and pasted your response to me .... I'm downloading Gavin's newest album as I write. There's a youtube video of a commerical he's singing. It was familiar; I think it is or was run in the U.S. Happy tunes! (I definitely recommend Songs for Laura too.) — Mert (talk) 07:39, May 8, 2008 (AKDT)
Adopt-a-user
Thanks, Kelli, for your interest in Adopt-a-user. I hoped you'd come on board. In these past few months your knowledge of WWR wiki has without a doubt eclipsed mine. I'm very happy about that. Right from the start with WWR wiki my favorite part has been seeing people learn and it still is.
sparx (talk) 19:54, May 9, 2008 (AKDT)
- Thanks for the compliment, but I doubt that my knowledge has surpassed yours. I'm getting bolder though. :-) It is great to watch people learn the WWR wiki! Kelli (talk) 19:59, May 9, 2008 (AKDT)
Tagcat
Should I give birth to a bot who changes all the tag category pages to Template:Tagcat? I wasn't quite sure what your reason/plans were for it but I don't see any reason why it can't/shouldn't be on all the tag category pages. ???
Jimbob (talk) 20:23, May 10, 2008 (AKDT)
- I created it because people keep making new tags but don't create the categories and it is much easier for me to remember tagcat. It's up to you if you want to change all the categories. I don't think it's necessary unless it's confusing people. Kelli (talk) 05:22, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
- Aha! Great idea. Yeah, I always forget what's supposed to be there and have to click on a valid tag, edit and then copy-paste. There is a slight chance I'll be able to remember {Tagcat}. I did a similar thing called {Emoticon_tag} to go on the top of all emoticon category pages. I think I saw sparx put something like {Open mic header} on the open mic pages. I don't want to rush in and make a standard and change everything this instant, but we should probably have a discussion about coming up with a naming convention for these kind of "put this at the top of every kind of page of this sort" templates i.e. {Tag header} {Emoticon header} {Artist header} {Album header} {Song header} {Userpage header} {Usertalkpage header} {Image page header} etc. ???

Free song
Way to go girl! I believe that you get to choose a song and listen to it for free when you get to 10,000 edits; or, you can trade that for an emoticon named after yourself, the Kellicon.
