I can't hear the music on my computer. What can I do?

See the Tune In guide for listening to the WWR stream. If you are still having problems, ask for help on the Live collaboration page. Often other listeners can help you get the stream up and running.

What is a User page?

Each person who creates an account has a User page. Most people put information about themselves and their interests on their User page. The title of User pages always begins with "User:" followed by the user's name.

How are these different from other pages?

User pages are more personal. They are your personal space on the website. Unless you ask them to, other users do not modify your User page. Instead people can leave messages and comments for you on your Talk page.

What the heck is a Talk page?

Every page on the site has a Talk (or Discussion) page attached to it. The Talk page attached to your User page is where other users leave messages for you. After they have left you a message, the next time you login you will see a yellow banner announcing that you have messages. (You can tell if you are on a Talk page when the title begins "Name talk:".)

There are Discussion pages for each article page, too. These pages are used to discuss the article — questions about the page, compliments about the page, and so forth.

How do I change something on a page?

Go to the page and at the top click the edit link. Another page opens with all the text in a big box. You can change the text in this box just like you do with Word Pad or TextEdit. Once you've made the changes you want to make, click the Show preview button. The page refreshes to show how the text will look. If it looks OK, click the Save page button. (See more about editing pages at Getting started or Editing cheat sheet.)

How do I add a personalized greeting to the top of a page?

Include the WWR variable $wwr_username_link in the greeting line. For example, Hello $wwr_username_link will produce Hello Anon.

How do I edit the Google map?

Note: Jim's been working on this, so the instructions below may be outdated. Click the link above for current info.

  1. On the Whole Wheat Radio site, click on Listener map on the left hand menu under fun stuff.
  2. Create a Google account if you don't have one and log in.
  3. Zoom in to your location on the map.
  4. Click Edit located on the left.
  5. Find the menu at the top left of the map. Click the second button, a blue pin, and then click your location on the map.
  6. Click on the blue pin to add your name and any other information you wish to share.
  7. Click OK.
  8. On the left, click Done.

How do I add an emoticon to a page?

Basically, any image that has been uploaded to this wiki can be used as an emoticon (small image) on any page anywhere on this wiki.

Use this format, Image:Any wiki image.gif, to add the image to any page.

See Emoticon for more information.

How do I archive my talk page?

Method 1

  1. Make the sub-page. You can do this by making a link to the new page or typing the name of the new page in the search box. Name the page something like User talk:Yourname/Archive01 The new page will open with an empty edit box. (See Make a new page.)
  2. In another browser window, open the page you want to archive.
  3. Click the edit tab. The page opens in edit mode.
  4. Copy everything in the edit box.
  5. Paste it into the archive page's edit box
  6. Click Save page. The page is saved and refreshes to show the archived material.
  7. Go back to the original page from which you copied the text.
  8. Delete all the text.
  9. Click Save page. The page is saved and refreshes to show a blank page.

Method 2 If you are not concerned about your archive being searchable, just go into edit mode and delete everything. In the Summary field type something that describes what you're doing - such as "clearing old talk". Because the wiki keeps a record of all edits, when you want to look at old material, click the history tab on the page and when the history page appears click the date/time link on the version right before your "clearing old talk" message.

What happened to my userid?

You have to logon using your userid at least once every 90 days. If you don't, your userid is removed as are your song rankings. The reason is because WWR is designed to reflect the active listeners' tastes and preferences. If we kept everyone who'd ever been here in the list, the current listeners might not be able to take control of the station.

Why do I have to keep logging in?

You will have to occasionally log in. Do the following if it is happening often:

  • Click my preferences in the upper right
  • Check Remember my login on this computer
  • Click Save
